How Do You Know Whether an International School Is Actually Good?

A well-designed campus, high fees, or a familiar name do not automatically mean a school is strong. Parents need better evidence than marketing.

Does accreditation matter?

Yes, but parents should check what kind of accreditation the school actually has. Accreditation can provide useful external validation, but it only helps if it is genuine, recent, and relevant.

A school should be able to tell you who accredited it, when that happened, and what the process involved.

Do academic results tell the whole story?

Strong results matter, but they need context. Was the school highly selective? How much progress did students make after joining? How does the school support children who are not already high performers?

Results can be useful, but they are not enough on their own.

Does teacher turnover matter?

Yes. Some staff movement is normal in international education, but consistently high turnover can affect continuity, relationships, and school culture.

Parents can ask how long teachers usually stay and how many are returning next year.

How does the school know children are learning?

Good schools should be able to explain how they assess learning and what happens when a child begins to fall behind. Data matters, but the response to that data matters even more.

How transparent is the school?

A strong school should be able to speak openly about progress, support, staffing, safeguarding, and areas for development. Transparency is often a strong sign of confidence and credibility.

Final thought

The real question is not, “Does this school look good?” It is: “What evidence tells me this school is good?”

World School Index helps parents compare schools more critically and look beyond the marketing.
